  • Ongoing daily struggles at work, home, and in relationships
  • Career and education opportunities missed without recognition or support
  • Mental health risks increase due to delay (anxiety, burnout, low self-esteem)
  • Lack of clarity while life continues to feel harder than it should

  • Clear diagnostic report accepted by workplaces, universities, and GPs
  • Fast access to treatment and skills support (no years-long wait)

Ongoing Support After Diagnosis

For adults who receive a diagnosis, a clear aftercare pathway is essential. ADHD Now offers ongoing Adult Therapy and Psychiatry services, including medication management, led by our team of Consultant Psychiatrists.

Please note: Psychiatric services are an additional, separate service from the diagnostic assessment and are subject to their own fees. This ensures you only pay for the services you need, when you need them.

Adult ADHD Assessment FAQs

About the Assessment

Who conducts the assessment?
The main assessment interviews and report writing are performed by a Clinical Psychologist specialising in Adult ADHD or an equivalent specialist in ADHD. Our service is overseen by our Clinical Director, Consultant Psychiatrist, Dr Vishnu Pradeep.
Is online assessment as effective as in-person?
Yes, in most cases, the assessment can be conducted entirely online via secure video conferencing, offering convenience and comfort. Suitability for an online assessment will be reviewed during your initial consultation.
What is the minimum age for adult assessment?
We assess adults typically aged 18 and older.
What if I have other conditions?
Our comprehensive assessment is designed to take into account and identify co-occurring conditions (like anxiety, depression, or autism). We provide guidance on all findings and recommended next steps.
What diagnostic criteria are used?
The assessment follows the evidence-based DSM-5 criteria, which is the gold standard for diagnosis and aligned with best-practice guidelines.
Is it worth getting assessed for ADHD as an adult?
Research indicates that a formal diagnosis is often life-transforming, leading to marked improvements in functionality, productivity, and self-esteem. It provides a neurobiological explanation for lifelong struggles, allowing individuals to replace self-criticism with self-compassion and access specialized workplace or academic supports.
Is your diagnosis medically recognised?
Our diagnoses are medically recognised and accepted by healthcare providers. The detailed report can be used to seek reasonable accommodations in higher education or the workplace.
Can I use this for workplace accommodations or RACE/DARE?
Yes, our comprehensive reports are suitable for seeking reasonable accommodations in higher education, workplace supports, and RACE/DARE applications where clinically appropriate.
Are services covered by health insurance?
In many cases, ADHD Now services are fully or partially covered by health insurers. Please verify directly with your provider. Many patients also qualify for a 20% tax rebate from Revenue.
What happens after diagnosis?
You'll receive a comprehensive report, feedback session with your clinician, and access to a free ADHD Group Coaching session. You may then consider coaching, therapy, or medication management (all available through ADHD Now).
Will my GP accept my private ADHD diagnosis?
Yes. Clinical reports from specialist-led services are recognized and accepted by GPs, workplaces, and universities across Ireland. These assessments follow the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) guidelines and the HSE Adult ADHD National Clinical Programme standards, ensuring they meet the highest medical criteria for credibility.

Process & Timeline

What is the first step in starting an assessment?
The first step is an initial consultation via video call with a specialist. This allows us to understand your concerns, review your history, and determine the next appropriate steps.
How long does the full assessment take?
From initial consultation to final diagnostic report typically takes 3 to 6 weeks, subject to specialist availability. Initial consultation availability is within seven days.
Do I need a GP referral?
No GP referral is required—you can self-refer directly. We encourage keeping your GP informed for coordinated care. GPs can refer directly via our Healthmail: adhdnow@healthmail.ie.
How should I prepare for the assessment?
Come rested, in a quiet private space. Gather any relevant historical information, such as old school reports or accounts from family members, beforehand.
How is adult ADHD diagnosed in Ireland?
Adult ADHD is diagnosed through a structured three-step process:

Initial Consultation: A preliminary video screening to review history and appropriateness for assessment.

Full Clinical Assessment: An in-depth evaluation using gold-standard tools like the DIVA-5 interview and CAARS rating scales.

Report and Management Plan: The clinical team synthesizes the data into a formal report recognized by medical and educational institutions.

Practical Information

Is there a payment plan available?
Yes, flexible payment plans are available. Payments can be spread across the assessment process, and we offer options like Klarna to split payments further.
Is medication available through ADHD Now?
Yes. Post-diagnosis, if deemed clinically appropriate by the Consultant Psychiatrist, you can access our medication management service. Non-medical interventions like ADHD coaching and therapy are also available.
How much does an adult ADHD assessment cost in Ireland?
The total investment for a full three-step specialist diagnostic pathway is €1,279. This is broken down into an initial consultation (€89), a comprehensive assessment (€695), and the final formulation and reporting (€495). Many patients choose to manage this cost using flexible payment plans like Klarna, and Irish residents can claim 20% tax relief on these medical expenses through the Med 1 form.
Can my GP prescribe ADHD medication after diagnosis?
Once a patient is stabilised on medication through a specialist titration period, many GPs accept a "shared-care" arrangement. In this model, the specialist provides detailed clinical correspondence to the GP, who then takes over the responsibility for issuing monthly repeat prescriptions.
What medication options are available for adult ADHD?
Available options include stimulants, such as Methylphenidate (often branded as Ritalin or Concerta XL) and Tyvense, as well as non-stimulant alternatives like Atomoxetine (Strattera) or Guanfacine (Intuniv). The choice depends on the patient's medical history and individual response to treatment.
Can I be diagnosed as an adult if I wasn't diagnosed as a child?
Yes, symptoms must have been present before age 12, even if never formally diagnosed. Many adults were missed as children, especially those with the predominantly inattentive type.
What if I'm not diagnosed with ADHD?
If ADHD is ruled out, you'll still receive a comprehensive report with findings and guidance on alternative explanations or conditions, along with recommended next steps for support.
Does ADHD run in families?
Yes, ADHD has a strong genetic link with high heritability. It's common for adults seeking assessment to realise that one or both parents or siblings also display similar traits.
What are signs I should get tested for ADHD?
Adults should consider an assessment if they experience persistent difficulties with focusing on non-stimulating tasks, chronic procrastination, or emotional dysregulation such as a quick temper or extreme impatience. Other indicators include being frequently labelled as "lazy" or "irresponsible" despite high capability, and engaging in impulsive or risky behaviours like reckless driving.
What does untreated ADHD look like in adults?
Untreated ADHD is closely correlated with higher rates of unemployment and workplace instability. It often manifests as relationship conflict due to impulsivity or forgetfulness, and can lead to secondary mental health issues such as chronic anxiety, depression, or burnout from "masking" symptoms.
