About the Assessment

Who conducts the assessment?
The main assessment interviews and report writing are performed by a Clinical Psychologist specialising in Adult ADHD or an equivalent specialist in ADHD. Our service is overseen by our Clinical Director, Consultant Psychiatrist, Dr Vishnu Pradeep.
Is online assessment as effective as in-person?
Yes, in most cases, the assessment can be conducted entirely online via secure video conferencing, offering convenience and comfort. Suitability for an online assessment will be reviewed during your initial consultation.
What is the minimum age for adult assessment?
We assess adults typically aged 18 and older.
What if I have other conditions?
Our comprehensive assessment is designed to take into account and identify co-occurring conditions (like anxiety, depression, or autism). We provide guidance on all findings and recommended next steps.
What diagnostic criteria are used?
The assessment follows the evidence-based DSM-5 criteria, which is the gold standard for diagnosis and aligned with best-practice guidelines.

What happens after diagnosis?
You'll receive a comprehensive report, feedback session with your clinician, and access to a free ADHD Group Coaching session. You may then consider coaching, therapy, or medication management (all available through ADHD Now).

What is the first step in starting an assessment?
The first step is an initial consultation via video call with a specialist. This allows us to understand your concerns, review your history, and determine the next appropriate steps.
How long does the full assessment take?
From initial consultation to final diagnostic report typically takes 3 to 6 weeks, subject to specialist availability. Initial consultation availability is within seven days.
Do I need a GP referral?
No GP referral is required—you can self-refer directly. We encourage keeping your GP informed for coordinated care. GPs can refer directly via our Healthmail: adhdnow@healthmail.ie.
How should I prepare for the assessment?
Come rested, in a quiet private space. Gather any relevant historical information, such as old school reports or accounts from family members, beforehand.

Practical Information

Is there a payment plan available?
Yes, flexible payment plans are available. Payments can be spread across the assessment process, and we offer options like Klarna to split payments further.
Is medication available through ADHD Now?
Yes. Post-diagnosis, if deemed clinically appropriate by the Consultant Psychiatrist, you can access our medication management service. Non-medical interventions like ADHD coaching and therapy are also available.
What is your cancellation policy?
All cancellations or reschedules within 24 hours do not incur any charge. Please notify us by phone if you need to cancel or reschedule.
How is my data protected?
All sessions use secure, encrypted video platforms and all data is held strictly in line with GDPR standards.

Understanding ADHD

What is ADHD?
ADHD (Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder) is a neurodevelopmental condition characterised by persistent patterns of inattention, hyperactivity, and/or impulsivity that interfere with functioning or development.
What are the three main types of ADHD?
Predominantly Inattentive: Difficulty with focus, organisation, and task completion.

Predominantly Hyperactive-Impulsive: Excessive restlessness, difficulty sitting still, and impulse control.

Combined Presentation: Significant symptoms of both inattention and hyperactivity-impulsivity.
Can I be diagnosed as an adult if I wasn't diagnosed as a child?
Yes, symptoms must have been present before age 12, even if never formally diagnosed. Many adults were missed as children, especially those with the predominantly inattentive type.
What if I'm not diagnosed with ADHD?
If ADHD is ruled out, you'll still receive a comprehensive report with findings and guidance on alternative explanations or conditions, along with recommended next steps for support.
Does ADHD run in families?
Yes, ADHD has a strong genetic link with high heritability. It's common for adults seeking assessment to realise that one or both parents or siblings also display similar traits.
