What does the assessment involve?

Our assessment is a structured process that includes an in-depth clinical interview, validated ADHD rating scales, and a review of your developmental, medical and personal history. If possible, we also gather input from someone who knows you well (such as a partner, parent, or friend).

The full process typically takes between 2–3 hours, split across multiple online appointments. You’ll also be asked to complete questionnaires in advance. A detailed diagnostic report is usually provided within approximately 3 weeks.

Most of our assessments are delivered securely online by video call. This makes the process accessible no matter where you live, while ensuring the same quality standards as an in-person consultation.

In many cases yes, however we cannot guarantee cover from insurance companies and it is up to the patient to verify with your health insurance company. If you intend on claiming cover from your insurer, please notify us in advance of an assessment or aftercare pathway. We cannot guarantee rebates will be provided as everyone’s insurer, plan and situation is different. ADHD Now assessments are structured to accommodate insurance company requirements.

We cannot guarantee that Revenue will provide you with a tax rebate; however, medical expenses may be eligible for a 20 % rebate. Additionally, some health‑care support schemes are available to help manage treatment costs; please consult your clinician for guidance on any programs that may apply to you.

ADHD Now are a specialist led service overseen by our full time Clinical Director, Consultant Psychiatrist Dr Vishnu Pradeep. Before joining ADHD Now, Dr Pradeep had years of experience practising within the HSE and also has extensive experience lecturing on psychiatry in Trinity College Dublin and University College Dublin. Since inception in 2023, ADHD Now has seen thousands of patients and holds an average review score of 4.9 stars out of 5.0.

We do accept referrals from GP’s, however no referral is required — you can book directly with us. However, we encourage you to keep your GP informed so your care is coordinated and it is possible we may liaise with your GP at some stage throughout the process.

You’ll be asked to complete questionnaires about your symptoms, history, and current challenges. We may also request school reports, previous assessments, or medical records if available. All of this is gone through on your initial consultation.

Assessments are carried out by fully qualified accredited / licensed clinicians — The ADHD Now clinical team consists of 20+, Consultant Psychiatrists, Chartered Clinical Psychologists, Advanced Nurse Practitioners, Mental Health Nurses, Psychologists and Assistant Psychologists with specialist training in ADHD.

Yes. Research shows that online ADHD assessments, when carried out by qualified clinicians using validated tools, are just as reliable as in-person assessments.

You’ll need a laptop, tablet, or smartphone with a camera and microphone, plus a stable internet connection. We provide simple instructions and a secure video link before your appointment.

We understand life can get in the way. If you need to reschedule, please let us know as early as possible to facilitate the appointment time for another patient of the service. Cancellations within 48 hours of the appointment may incur a fee.

You’ll receive a detailed diagnostic report, resources and recommendations for support. This may include therapy, coaching and other management strategies tailored to your personal circumstances. Together with our experienced team, you can agree on an appropriate care plan.

If ADHD isn’t the right explanation, we’ll explain our findings clearly and may suggest further assessments or alternative treatment options to support your wellbeing.

Yes. Every patient receives a comprehensive report summarising the assessment findings, diagnosis (if applicable), and treatment recommendations. This report can be shared with your GP, family, workplace, or university if you choose.

Yes. Our assessments follow internationally recognised diagnostic standards (DSM). The report is suitable for medical records, academic support, and workplace accommodations

Treatment may include, among others, psychological therapies and practical ADHD coaching. We’ll work with you to choose the most appropriate options

Absolutely. We offer ongoing support including medication management, therapy, and regular reviews. Many patients choose to stay with us for long-term care, while others transition back to GP-led management once stable with an annual check up with our psychiatry team.

What is the initial step to start my child's ADHD assessment?

Should ADHD not be diagnosed, we provide guidance on alternative explanations for your child’s behaviour and discuss potential next steps.
Preparing your child involves explaining the process in a calm manner and ensuring they remain comfortable throughout.
Generally, children under 8 are not assessed for ADHD, but exceptions can be made based on specific behavioural symptoms and needs.
When explaining ADHD to your child, it’s beneficial to approach the conversation with positivity and clarity. Use straightforward and encouraging language to explain that everyone’s brain works in its unique way, which is what makes each of us special. You could say, “Imagine your brain is like a busy bee garden; sometimes it feels like there are so many bees buzzing around that it’s hard to focus on just one flower. But this also means you can notice lots of flowers quickly and have so many wonderful ideas buzzing through your mind” Emphasise the positive traits associated with ADHD, such as creativity and a vibrant energy, reassuring them that ADHD is just one part of their vibrant personality. Encourage them to ask questions and express how they feel about ADHD and what they think it means. Sharing stories of successful individuals with ADHD can also be inspiring.
